Description: VTG Brass Employee Mining Tag: RESERVE MINING CO Babbitt MN Taconite Iron Mining This an old Reserve Mining Company brass Employees tag, or "Miner’s Chit". It indicates the R.M.Co. and Employee. It is from the Babbitt, Minnesota and the now extinct Reserve Mining Company. The company dated to 1939, when Dr. EW Davis, an expert and pioneer in taconite processing, convinced mining companies that it was possible to mine and process taconite at a profit. Reserve Mining Company was formed by four steel companies, but by 1950 Armco Steel and Republic Steel would each own 50% of the company.
