Description: Vintage original very scarce 1918 handbook from the British Air Ministry H.B.M. Government. The book was meant to provide pilots in WWI with a reference to identify enemy aircraft. It was labeled "For Official Use Only" and "Not To Be Carried in Aircraft". This book provides description and photographs of the following crafts: Albatros, Brandenburg, Friedrichshafen, Rumpler, Sablating, Bradenburg-Gotha, and Gotha. These models of seaplanes and flying boats are from 1916 and 1917. They were either single or twin engine. Each aeroplane type is shown in a photograph and a silhouette. There are also written descriptions for each plane. A flying boat is a type of fixed wing seaplane with a hull, allowing it to land on water. It differs from a floatplane in having a fuselage that is purpose-designed for floatation, while floatplanes rely on fuselage-mounted floats for buoyancy. Flying boats became commonly used in WWI. This copy is in remarkable condition. It is not bent, no folds or creases. Signs of light use, three little sketches and one smudge on the back cover. Overall, very negligible wear. The stapled binding is fully intact but the glue on the spine has dried and separated from the side edge of the text block. The text block is still attached from the rear cover. 7 1/2 x 10 3/4 inches. 53 pages. Ships with USPS Priority Mail, signature required.
