Vintage Diamond of California Wooden Duck Nutcracker ~ Early Version Click images to enlarge Description This vintage nutcracker was recently acquired at an estate auction of a longtime collector in Western Illinois. It is appealing, desirable & collectible. These were available for purchase in the early 1980's during the Christmas holidays to be used as gifts. It came with a variety mixed nuts. This is an early version identified by it not being painted. The later versions were painted to look like a mallard. Formed in 1912 by a handful of walnut farmers, Diamond was an amalgamation of five agricultural cooperatives; Diamond Walnut Growers, Sun Maid Growers of California, Sunsweet Growers, Valley Fig Growers, & Hazelnut Growers of Oregon, who pooled their distribution and marketing resources. We present this piece exactly as it was when acquired. No attempts to clean it have been made. It was only dusted off for photos. This vintage item shows wear which is shown in the photos.
