Description: This is the 1957 Ace Books edition of Sasha Siemel's TIGRERO!, Ace Books #D-218 in VG+ to near fine condition. The cover art is by John Leone, a freelance artist who worked for the book and men's adventure magazine industry. He's particularly known for his western and adventure covers. He later made a name for himself painted horses and hunting pictures. TIGRERO! was originally published in 1953 by Prentice-Hall. It has been called one of "the great adventure stories of history." According to the 2016 Safari Press edition of TIGRERO!: "Alexander "Sasha" Siemel hailed from Latvia and emigrated to Argentina to join his brother. Once in South America he found a job as a mechanic, but he was soon drawn to the vast wilderness of the Mato Grosso. His dream was to become a jaguar hunter in the endless grasslands and marshes of the Pantanal, where big game flourished and where Brazilian ranchers pursued rugged lives. "Siemel sought out and eventually found Joaquim Guató, a native reported to be an expert tigrero, or jaguar hunter. Guató fought jaguars armed only with a spear, and he passed on his knowledge to Siemel before he himself was killed by the man-eating Assassino. Siemel proved a highly capable apprentice, first hunting jaguars with a rifle and later with a spear. Over time he became the most successful hunter of jaguars in the history of South America, and it is reported that in his long career as a jaguar hunter, Sasha Siemel engaged in thirty-one victorious spear fights against these ferocious beasts." This copy of the 1957 Ace Books edition of TIGRERO! is in VG+ to near fine condition. It appears to be unread with a tight, square binding, a very minor cover crease to the front cover near the spine, minor rubbing to the back edge of spine and even less to the front edge, and a very nice back cover with very minor defects. The interior paper is creamy to yellowing.
