Five unused postcards featuring excerpts from literature and poetry written by Victor Hugo as well as illustrations by French artist Francisque Poulbot. Text excerpts are from Hugo's Les Misérables and La Légende des Siècles and are all related to the theme of childhood. Condition: Postcards are unused/unposted and in very good condition. 2. A 4-page booklet containing a message written by Edouard Herriot urging contributions that would allow the continuation of a Victor Hugo chair at Paris's Sorbonne University. Facsimile signatures of various French educational officials appear on one of the pages. Booklet is small-form and measures 4 x 6 inches (10.16 x 15.24 cm). Cover illustration is also by Francisque Poulbot. Condition: Fair. Booklet's paper has yellowed and become brittle with age. The middle pages are detached from the binding (see picture #8). 3. A 4-page booklet containing information about the Victor Hugo Foundation, a message urging children to buy the postcards, and a list of Hugo's works. Condition: This booklet's condition is also fair, with similar yellowing and weakening of its paper as the small booklet. There are tears on both pages along the creases where paper folds. These tears are not very evident in the last image above, but they are present. In the interest of preserving/protecting the paper, we did not stretch the tears to illustrate them in the image.
