Description: Beautiful Baltimore/Maryland souvenir plate made by Vernon Kilns from Vernon CA. These plates were mfg. using transferware process in placing scenes from local tourist areas onto a porcelain plate, then kiln fired to produce various dinnerware type plates. The art was produced by several well-known artists active in the 30's, 40's, and 50's such as Orpha Klinker, Don Blanding and Rockwell Kent. This is a standard stock plate offered in the Vernon Kilns catalog. Most of the scenes depicted are from the Baltimore and Annapolis area, however the Carroll Mansion in Homewood is also depicted which makes this more a Maryland plate. The border is beautifully decorated with black eyed susans, the state flower of Maryland. Plate measures 10.25" and is a nice wood brown color. No cracks, chips or crazing, other than natural firing chiggers from production. A beautiful piece of 1940's art!
