Description: Nice pair of Italian propaganda postcards from the period during or right after Benito Mussolini invaded Ethiopia. The cards show an Italian in a pith helmet instructing native Ethiopians about work (Lavoro) and after work (Dopolavoro). The Second Italo-Ethiopian War was a war of aggression which was fought between Italy and Ethiopia from October 1935 to February 1937. In Ethiopia it is often referred to simply as the Italian Invasion. Italy's military victory overshadowed concerns about the economy. Mussolini was at the height of his popularity in May 1936 with the proclamation of the Italian empire. The aim of invading Ethiopia was to boost Italian national prestige, which was wounded by Ethiopia's defeat of Italian forces at the Battle of Adowa in the nineteenth century (1896), which saved Ethiopia from Italian colonization. The cards were made in Italy by Bromostampa of Torino Italy 1936. Modern pencil text on the backs. Otherwise the cards are very clean and nice. Sold together only.
