Issued June 16, 1938 Scott catalog #: 807 Known as “Prexies,” the 1938 Presidential series is a favorite among collectors. The series was issued in response to public demand for a new Regular Issue series. At the time, President Franklin D. Roosevelt agreed to stage a contest. The general public was asked to submit original designs for a new series and more than 1,100 sketches were submitted. Elaine Rawlinson, who had little knowledge of stamps, won the contest. Mint condition, this unused lot of 10 postage stamps with original gum as issued by the US Post Office.
