Carpenter fans know that the director's commentary tracks are often fun and informative affairs (see The Thing and The Fog special edition), and his contribution to They Live is on par with those efforts; the track, which was recorded over a decade ago for a region 2 release of the film, also features star Roddy Piper, who's clearly pleased to chat with Carpenter again, as evidenced by his loose and funny reminiscences. Carpenter is also of several key players featured in brand-new interviews recorded exclusively for the collector's edition, including largely underappreciated actress Meg Foster, director of photography Gary Kibbe, and Carpenter's frequent musical collaborator, composer Alan Howarth. The best of the new talking-head featurettes is a conversation with costar Keith David, which also touches on his work with Carpenter for The Thing.
