Henry Major (1889-1948) was a caricaturist and painter who created the popular stock character "The Gay Philosopher". Henry Major's work was used by the Brown & Bigelow calendar company from 1945-1952. Artist Clair Fry continued with images of the character from 1953-1973. "Pa and Ma Philosopher" is 11" x 15" and is in excellent condition. It was removed from a damaged 1949 calendar. Chuck Olson CollectionChuck Olson spent over 40 years collecting and traveling the United States in search of unique vintage prints. He was especially interested in prints that were printed for use on calendars in the "Age of the Calendar" from 1900-1960.
