One might think that this is natural since they are more than twice the price, but rather than such a hierarchical relationship, I got the impression that their sound preferences are different from each other to begin with. The method of pursuing a sound based on the premise that the listener can choose according to his or her tastes is common in high-end audio for home use, and it has a depth that cannot be selected based on simple superiority or inferiority. The WM1A, which uses machined aluminum for its chassis, inherits the sharpness and dynamic sound of the ZX1, one of the flagship models to date, but it has been tuned in a natural direction befitting an advanced model by loosening the high frequency range and reducing the hardness of consonants and excessive grain in percussion. The rhythm carved by the bass brings out a rich sense of volume and thickness for the crispness of the attack, and appeals to a strong sense of beat. Vocals have a meaty feel to them without strengthening the contours of the voice, but the softness and warmth of the vocals give the impression of faithfully bringing out the characteristics of the recording, rather than adding an analog-like effect. These are my impressions with the balanced connection, but the sound tone does not change significantly even with an unbalanced connection, and it has a delicate expressive power to carefully render details. The WM1Z, on the other hand, has silky soft highs, and each note is highly textured. In a word, the sound is unlike anything I have ever heard from the company's portable audio products. And yet, within this softness, there is a good sense of core strength and density, and the key is to bring out unexpectedly rich undulations and strong tension from the performance.
