Description: This is an original disbound 3 October 1863 issue of the British illustrative newspaper The Illustrated London News, which includes “Sketches in Australia” images associated with bush or country life including Aboriginal themes and associated article over pages 348, 349, 352, 353-354, & 356. These “Sketches in Australia” scenes include: “Hunting the Emu” (p.348) “Kangaroo Hunt” (p.349) “Coo-oo-oo-ee” (Aboriginal theme, p.352) “Dingoes Prowling Round the Sheepfold” (p.352) “Snake-Hunting” (Aboriginal theme, p.353) “The Bee-Hunters” (Aboriginal theme, p.353) “Native Dance” (Aboriginal theme, p.356) This newspaper issue also includes a range of other news and illustrations including “The Volunteer Rifle Match Between Australia and England” (image on p.333); the “Royal Marriage Festival at Christchurch, New Zealand” (article and image on p.356); and “International Rifle-Match. England Versus Australia” (article on p.342). This original 1863 newspaper issue is in very good condition overall for its age and will be sent in a large stiff mailer (45cm x 33cm) with an extra sheet of thick cardboard to protect.
