Description: A rare English antique solid sterling silver matchbook vesta case. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1928 with the maker being Adie Brothers Ltd. It has been superbly designed being internally gilded and the front engraved with the 5th Battalion of The Green Howards badge and motto. They were also known as the Alexandra, Princess of Wales' Own Yorkshire Regiment, was a Territorial Army infantry battalion that saw action in World War I and World War II. It has been inscribed 'In commemoration Guard of Honour To H.R.H Princess Mary at Bridlington 7 Sept 1928'. I wonder if Princess Mary presented it in recognition? It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs, it has been used. It works perfectly. It measures approx. 2.5 inches (6.2cm) tall by over 1.75 inches (4.6cm) wide and weighs 40 grams. A very high quality rare example. Also on Selling Antiques.
