Description: This is a piece of mid-century art history found at a local Delaware estate - an abstract stoneware vase by noted ceramicist Richard Manz (1933-1999). Richard Manz was born in Germany, and spent most of his life in Sweden and Denmark, and was married to another well-known ceramicist Bodil Manz. The rounded vase measures 4 1/2" tall, is about 5 1/2" across at the widest point, and the opening is 1 3/8" across. This piece is signed underneath. It comes from his studio (Saxbo era), and appears to be from the 1960s-70s timing. A vase very similar but with a bluish band is currently in the collection at the Worcester Art Museum. In terms of condition, I see one chip on the side by the band, although at first it was hard to see due to the rough arts and crafts nature of its construction There are some brown marks that appear to be also from its production. Please see all pictures for condition and details. Enjoy!
