Description: For your consideration: One (1) authentic Steiff Eric the Bat 17cm / 8.5" Steiff's unusual bat, Eric, was produced only from 1960 through 1962 in 10 cm and 17 cm. Both are unjointed and have mohair heads and bodies, as well as double felt ears, a button nose, and button eyes. Their wings are made from faux suede and are posable with internal wires. The large one has grey-brown mohair arms and legs, while the small has pipe cleaner appendages. Eric's body composition is amongst the most varied and intricate of any Steiff creation. Eric was very labor intensive to manufacturer, which may explain why he only appeared in the catalog for 3 years. That, in conjunction with his relative fragility, is one of the reasons that an Eric in good condition is considered such a treasure for most vintage Steiff collectors. This particular 17cm Eric comes from my mother's collection which all date from the early 50s to early 60s. Eric is in decent, clean condition. His mohair is in fine shape with minimal wear. His wings are okay, with the wire showing on his left wing. His eyes are good but he is missing his button nose. His felt ears have a bit of damage as well. My mother was an avid remover of tags and buttons, and this example is no exception. Though these issues by themselves do not detract from Eric's appearance and he would make a fine addition to anyone's vintage Steiff collection, he has been priced with these imperfections in mind. ***Please see the detailed photos from every angle of the actual item being offered.
