RARE OUTSTANDING 19th CENTURY MEXICAN RETABLO PAINTING ON TIN THE HOLY FAMILY

Description: This Retablo is an Estate Fresh piece from a long time collector of Latin art and figures, and was a choice piece by its owner according to the family. He bought it over 50 years ago and it was old then. It still retains the original tag from where he bought and how much it was. Titled " La Sagrada Familia " (The Holy Family). It features all 4 in the Holy family in this beautiful painting and the faces of the Child Jesus and his mother Mary are just heart warming. Its a wonderful scarce piece and will adorn ANY place where it is hung and cherished. This is a wonderful Mexican Retablo or Religious Painting on Tin. The retablo art form flourished in Mexico during the second half of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century. Precedents for tin retablos can be traced to religious images placed in church altars and paintings on wood, copper, tin, and canvas by European and Mexican artists created between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries. Also affecting this distinctly Mexican devotion are pre-Columbian precedents of small household gods and mold-made clay votive figurines. The nineteenth-century Mexican tin retablo combines Mexican and European influences to create a vital and unique art form. The piece is finish framed at 16.5" x 12.5" wide.
