RARE HUGE Antique 1910 FRENCH Wallpaper HAT BOX Hand Painted Scenic LEPINE PARIS

Description: A Spectacular and huge, massive antique hat box from Paris, France. Edwardian era, circa 1910, a true antique over 110 years old. Truly breathtaking, the largest hat box I have ever seen, this would have held one of those gigantic Titanic era or Merry Widow hats or even several opulent era Belle Epoque Gilded Age hats. Stunning combination of hand wood blocked and hand painted wall paper wallpaper, gorgeous French country side scenic, Regency Rococo romance, roses, stripes, pretty women, flowers, scrolls and more. Even the interior is lovely, fully lined in gilt gold papers in a fancy pattern. Inside the lid is the maker's label, Lepine, 7 Rue Theodore-du-Granville, Paris. Made of thick cardboard, paper and paint. Measures a grand 22" by 21 1/2", and stands 12" tall. Much like the rare antique wallpapers of Thibaut and DuFour of Paris. Shows some wear commensurate with age, but I feel it is amazing that it survived several wars and a long trip across the Atlantic and is still basically intact and beautiful. I am sure a very wealthy lady brought this to America after her trip to the Rue de la Paix millinery district in Paris, the box holding a chapeau from one of the great Parisian modistes such as Caroline Reboux, Georgette, or J. Suzanne Talbot. The photos tell the story and I tried to show it very well for you. This would be a wonderful display in a millinery collection or shop, or any room in the house. A once in a life time find, some flaws, but in overall good clean condition for its age. I would never sell this, but just no longer have the room for it and it deserves a place where it can be well protected, displayed, and loved.
