As the 27th President of the United States, he took the necessary actions to safeguard our homeland. One of those actions was recorded with this Taft signed presidential military appointment. Dated 7/10/1911, this document appointed Robert Lincoln Gray to the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Corps. Measuring 14x17, this vellum sheet is remarkably crisp and well-preserved. Minor wear is noted along the multiple compacting folds and on the blue United States Department of the Army War Office Seal at bottom left. Otherwise, this antique military document is surprisingly fresh and clean, with distinct content, including engravings of a fierce eagle at top, and a heap of gear and weapons at bottom. Full photo LOA from PSA/DNA, and University Archives COA.
