Description: Additional Information from Movie Mars Product Description Personnel: Oscar Peterson (piano); Ray Brown, Sam Jones (bass); Ed Thigpen, Bobby Durham, Louis Hayes (drums). Recorded between 1963 and 1968. In the 1960s Oscar Peterson made a series of recordings in Germany for MPS, all of which featured the pianist's dazzling technique on the 88's and his kaleidoscopic assimilation of styles as divergent as hard bop, boogie woogie, swing, classical, and popular song. EXCLUSIVELY FOR MY FRIENDS- THE LOST TAPES finds Peterson working with longtime trio members Ed Thigpen (drums) and Ray Brown (bass) on four tracks here, including Peterson's own breakneck workout "Squeaky's Blues" and a greatly extended exploration of "Tenderly," with fine playing from all involved. Bassist Sam Jones and drummer Bob Durham support Peterson on the album's remaining eight cuts, which range from delicately rendered standards ("Stella by Starlight") to a hopped-up version of the Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers tune "Moanin'" to a goofy, swinging run through "Put On a Happy Face." In addition to Peterson and company's superior musicianship, there is a relaxed party atmosphere to these recordings that contributes to the music's appeal. About Movie Mars All items are Brand New.
