"Pedernal From Ghost Ranch" (NM) by Ward Love, Acrylic Painting

Description: "Pedernal From Ghost Ranch" - An Original Acrylic Painting by Ward Love, created in 2014 on gallery-wrapped, stretched canvas, 20" X 16" X 5/8" - shows my fascination with the great scenery of the American Southwest. Pedernal (Cerro Pedernal) is a mountain (narrow mesa, meaning "Flint Hill") located near Abiquiu, NM and has long been referred to as "Georgia O'Keeffe's Mountain" because of the many times that she painted it. Ghost Ranch is a place that still exists (as a "21,000 acre retreat and education center") where Ms. O'Keeffe lived for many years prior to her purchase of a beautiful old adobe house in the nearby village of Abiquiu, NM. My acrylic painting, "Pedernal From Ghost Ranch" is an homage both to Georgia O'Keeffe and that area in New Mexico . I tried to 'capture the moment' on the road into the ranch, when the skies are golden near sunset and the hills can literally turn blue, fleetingly. As usual, I express my love of the entire area with a lavish palette of strong color. This painting is on stretched canvas but is not gallery-wrapped and has painted edges. It is 20" wide x 16" high x 5/8" in depth . As usual with the majority of my work, it was made with brushes and palette knives and is unframed. It is wired and ready to hang. The painting is signed with appropriate information on the back. Some seem to consider my paintings expressionistic or impressionistic - I try to capture the "feel" of the place that I paint. Obviously I am considered a "colorist" and offer a bright pallet. I create my "Art From Peaks To Plains" - The American Southwest, up and down the Rocky Mountains and to the Great Plains! In other series, I sometimes do non- representational art, however, most of my many decades of art are concerned with the landscapes that I love. Thanks for your consideration.
