For best fruiting, flowers should be hand pollinated. At maturity, it can climb up to 50 feet tall.The ripe fruit is eaten fresh or used in drinks whilst unripe, green fruit is eaten as a vegetable. It can be chopped and combined for unique fruit salads, where it adds a mellow charm with a hint of lime like flavor.It prefers fertile, well-drained soil. It is quite hardy, surviving temperatures down to 35°F for short periods of time.
