Description: American Stoneware, Paducah, KY Stoneware Pitcher with Vinegar Advertising circa 1885 Tankard, signed Jos L Friedman Signed Collectible piece signature of JOS L FRIEDMAN & CO. and continues script writing PURE VINEGARS PADUCAH KY. Albany slip glaze finish, featuring a spout and applied handle as well as the incised advertising. In great condition. Scratch pitcher one quart size. Very legible scratch writing. This piece by Jos Friedman whos was born in Louisville in 1857 had a successful business selling vinegar products. This piece has only been displayed in a private collection since acquired. Pitcher stands at 4 3/4 inches tall. It measures 4 1/2 inches from edge of rim to edge of handle. Its base is 3 inch diameter. There are natural handmade flaws including rough finish on the rim, and at the base. One minor loss of material at the edge of the base. It comes from a smoke free home, and directly from the artist many years ago. Utilitarian piece that will only increase in value over the years. Beautiful work and colors!
