Description: Auction Wizard 2000 Listing Template - AW2KLOT#:15349 In the beginning of WWI invaded countries and others now joined the French Republic and the British and Russian empires to create the Allies. French illustrators created a series of prints to show unity in diversity: visualizing national anthems, introducing foreigners in their various uniforms, gathering together colorful flags, picturing soldiers from many countries fighting for the cause. In this series titled "Les Hymnes Allies" there are 12 different prints, one for each allie. This 1916 print listed for sale is the "Montenegro Hymne". It was designed by French artist Lucien Laforge. He created an almost abstract composition of unmodulated blocks of brilliant red, blue, and orange with a green triangular accent on the horizon. The staunch Montenegrin stands on a rocky outcropping on the edge of the Adriatic Sea, perhaps at the Port of Bar. He looks toward the horizon where we might see a French ship outrunning the blockade to bring much-needed supplies. The bottom of the print says it was part of a limited edition of 1000 prints and the paper it was printed on has the watermark of the printer (MBM Ingres dArches) to prove it was part of the original series. Print measures about 12 x 19 inches. Want to see my other WWII items? Check out my eBay store Bungalowblondie WWII Free shipping in the USA. Guaranteed to be an authentic "old" item. 7/2023
