Although he began his creative career as an actor and an advertising film director, he eventually turned to painting. While obtaining a formal art education, Watanabe studied color techniques in California, eventually falling in love with America and moving to San Francisco. Nobuo Watanabe paints Americana with a meticulous definition to every face, tree, and snowflake, using his technique of "precisionism", the humor and playfulness evidenced by his work scenes are so charming that the viewer should be prepared for a long, long look, in order to fully observe all the elements that he has included.
