Morris Hirshfield Signed Oil Painting On Canvas "Checkers" Brooklyn NY c.1930s

Description: Winner receives a signed oil on canvas painting by Morris Hirshfield. The painting depicts a group of men playing checkers and is signed in the lower left corner, seen magnified in picture 5. We estimate the painting was realized in the 1930s although it’s not dated. The painting is in very good condition, but there are some condition issues. There are two small old repairs on the verso with some minor in-painting on the front. The repairs can be seen in picture 8. There is small paint chip in the upper right quadrant, seen magnified in picture 6. The piece is housed in the original frame which is in very good condition with no cracks or repairs, but does show age related wear. The painting can be hanged as-is or the new owner may wish to touch up the paint chip. The frame measures roughly 23.5" x 20", with the image measuring roughly 20" x 16". After reaching out to the well listed primitive artist Morris Hirshfield’s grandson, and executor of his estate, we don’t believe the painting is by the hand of that Morris Hirshfield. This oil bearing the artist’s full name, Morris Hirshfield, not to be confused with oils by the famous painter of primitive art, Morris Hirshfield, who signed all his oils with the date and as, “M.
