Description: MERCURY DIMECut-Out Coin Charm Pendant Necklace Pictured is a 75-year-old+ coin -- a Mercury dime -- hand 'cut-out' and placed on an 18" silver necklace. This coin was minted until the 1940's, just prior to the Roosevelt dime design like the current day coins. The "Mercury" lady on the obverse is cut around by hand with a tiny jeweler's saw, by a steady hand of a craftsman of many years. You can see this in the photo by the black area -- you are looking right through it to the black background. Notice the letters, "L I B E R T Y", have been cut around, attached to the coin's rim.A beautiful and historic coin gift. Date and coin condition will vary, but most are in the early 1940's.How was this piece of cut-coin jewelry made? First, a couple tiny holes have been drilled through the coin's obverse, and, using a fine-tooth hand saw the area around the lady, and within the rim, has been cut away leading to this very attractive coin jewelry. Want Earrings? If you wish to use two of these coins on your earrings, order two or more items. By request, I will remove the chain and mail only the coins and you may deduct the s/h charges before paying.Coin Facts: So-called "Mercury" dimes contain no mercury, nor do they depict the Roman messenger god. Adolph A. Weinman, was the designer and a noted sculptor who had studied under Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The obverse figure is a depiction of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap (typically worn by freed slaves in the Roman Empire), symbolizing freedom of thought. It is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful designs ever to grace a United States coin.FREE NECKLACE and BLACK VELVETY JEWELRY POUCH: A very fine 18” sterling necklace is included free, and a special gift pouch is included with every purchase. Coin could be adapted for a charm bracelet by removing necklace and attaching your own charm ring, or putting on your favorite necklace. NOTE: Date may differ from the date shown, and coin will be similar in quality to that pictured. Date request not always available; most are dated in the early 1940's (1941 etc...).
