Description: This is a very nice Mexican handmade amate "bark" paper artwork. "Amate" paper (bark paper) is still created nowadays using the same traditional technique used at pre-columbian Mesoamerica. It is made fully by hand from the bark of the "ficus" tree with sacred meaning for indigenous. The fibers coming out of the boiled bark are softened with flat volcanic rocks. In the making of this paper art, the artisans use the still wet and malleable fibers of the bark wood to make all the forms and patterns you can see with their bare hands, they make knots, they perform paper embossing as a like, then let them dry in open air on wooden boards when they get stiff like cardboard. This paper art is fully natural, the colors are achieved using dirt and natural dies from plants applied directly to the fibers, so they won't fade during time (direct sunlight might change them a bit). All what you see in the art is made fully by hand and it´s all amate paper anything else. No machine is used for its confection. They are made in Mexico by Otomi artisans from Puebla by my request. This is real "one of a kind" artwork. Any of them are similar to other. As a perfect complement for this fine art, I framed it with a very nice angled wooden frame made by me fully by hand with premium natural american Oak wood, lightly stained and finished with several coats of polyurethane. The finish of the frame is a kind of satin not too glossy. Even when this is an artisan folk art coming from millennium traditional making, the mix of the patterns, the nice mat color and the angled frame give the art an awesome look even for modern contemporary decoration. These are the dimensions of this art: The frame is 24 x 24 inches and 1-3/4 inch depth. The "amate" painting is 16 inches each side. The art is fixed to a high quality 4 ply light brown (or dark beige) mat for embellishment (in the photos it looks a little pinkish, it´s not...). You will also get it with a protective clear plexiglass acrylic (almost unbreakable) as shown in the pictures. Yes, it is expensive but I think the piece worths it. It is also lightweight and it will last a lifetime. The frame comes with a serrated style hanger and the back is fully covered with kraft paper for dust protection, as quality craftsmanship should be. It has in the lower part of the backing a couple of rubber bumpers to let the moisture flow throughout the back without damaging the art or your wall. We can assure that you will enjoy this fine and nice art; both, the Amate Paper artwork as well as the handmade wooden frame.
