Description: Following the dissolution of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the legendary guitarist formed the Band of Gypsys with bassist Billy Cox, whom Hendrix met in the army, and drummer Buddy Miles. They ushered the 1960s into the 1970s in two evenings of concerts at the Fillmore East on December 31, 1969 and January 1, 1970. This production presents color and black-and-white footage of those nights. The freewheeling bluesy sound of the Band of Gypsys is captured on such tracks as "Machine Gun" and "Message of Love." Also included are interviews with Hendrix's bandmates, footage of Jimi on the Dick Cavett Show, and interviews with rock dignitaries such as Lenny Kravitz, Slash, and Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell, who expound on Hendrix's contributions to popular music. Sadly, this performance, originally designed to fulfill a forgotten contractual agreement, was one of the guitar master's last; Hendrix died less than one year later. The DVD includes never-before-seen material, including unreleased music, photographs, and additional concert footage. The Authorized Hendrix Family Edition. Unopened, brand new.
