Description: Rare original 1960 promo copy of Jackie McLean's Makin' the Changes LP on New Jazz (Prestige) NJLP-8231. Features Curtis Fuller, Paul Chambers and Mal Waldron. Original Bergenfield address, deep groove pressing with Rudy Van Gelder's stamp in the runoffs. Promo stamps on fine back and demonstration sticker on the front from LA's famous Music City record store, had dated 6/15/60. The disc has some scuffs and hairlines and a few light marks but really it plays just beautifully. There is a little light crackle between tracks, and faintly in a couple of the quieter moments, but really barely. There is a light tick that persists through much of the track Jackie's Ghost, but it isn't a loud popping so much as a faint clicking, and it goes away toward the end. There is an occasional click here and there elsewhere as well, but only a few light ones. Really it plays clearly and beautifully overall. Just a beautiful listen. The cover has some staining on the back and some corner and edge wear. The lower steam is split about 2/3 of the way across, and the lower left corner is badly rubbed. The upper seam is split for about 1 inch. The other corners are slightly bumped as well. The spine is intact and fully readable, but with wear at the top and bottom, and slight whitening in the center. Still it is a quite striking copy, still shiny and solidly intact. And it sounds just lovely most of the way through.
