Description: An original drypoint etching by the highly regarded American Impressionist artist, Mary Cassatt (1844-1926). The work is titled "Denise Holding her Child" and the plate was executed by Cassatt about 1905, the catalogue raisonne reference is (Breeskin 204). It is printed in black ink on cream colored laid paper that is watermarked with a small bunch of grapes, this watermark is commonly found on early edition Cassatt prints, see last photo for backlit image. The plate measures 8 1/8 x 5 7/8 inches and has good margins, the sheet size is approx. 13 x 9 1/2 inches. Very fine condition, a couple of minor foxing spots and some typical ripple to the paper, the reverse shows some tape residue in corners. I have never before seen a pencil signed impression of this print, but this one bears the artist's initials in pencil, I suspect these were added later, although not sure enough to erase them.
