It was considered the most beautiful track in the world and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The race tracks in Florida fought over the covert winter racing dates, which doomed Hialeah. The current owner tried to return to racing but only with quarter horses, and that was a failure. The stables have been torn down today, and the buildings are a casino.
