Description: David Parkes (1811 - 1906, Professor of Hebrew at the Wesleyan College, Sheffield). Original 1843 Manuscript "Lecture on the Hebrew Language and the Literature and Philosophy of the Hebrews" 49pp, signed an dated at the end "21st Novr. 1843 D. Parkes" in English with the occasional piece of Hebrew text for illustration. The lecture is divided into two parts, and there are a further 7pp of manuscript lecture notes tipped-in (also in Parkes's hand) untitled, though briefly exploring "...the noble tongues of Arabia and Persia". All probably unpublished. Original half black morocco, the spine with gilt-stamped title "Epistolæ". Approx. 195x235mm., a little rubbed in places, occasional internal spotting.
