The single Our Father bead is an aurora borealis crystal with silver-plated filigree caps. The ten Hail Mary beads are alternating clear light sapphire blue and opaque white - for snow, of course! The gold-toned St Benedict crucifix is about 1-1/2" tall. The medal is 1", oval nickel silver with the image of Our Lady of the Snows on the front and "Pray for us" on the back. A wealthy childless couple wanted Our Lady to be the heir to their wealth, and so asked the pope who told them to pray for a sign from Our Lady. Our Lady appeared to the couple and to the Pope in a dream and asked them to build a church for her at the crown of the Esquiline Hill. The husband asked for the sign that the Pope wished for, and Our Lady replied that "snow will cover the crest of the hill." It was August, yet snow fell silently during the night. In the morning snow covered the hill in a pattern that shows the design of the future church.
