GLORIA LEWIS came to the United States from South America in 1973 and began experimenting with various forms of art. Over 30 years ago she discovered silk painting, and it became her passion. Starting with a piece of pure white silk, she hand paints each piece using a combination of methods. Watercolor, shibori, dye manipulation, and discharge are some of the techniques that she has mastered. After the fabric painting is complete, she designs the style of the garment and has it sewn in her own studio. She says: "It is tremendously rewarding to create exclusive garments that make women feel unique and sensual. I love the creative development of taking a white piece of silk, seeing it evolve, and finally transformed into a beautiful piece of wearable art." Gloria Lewis creations are shown at fine juried arts shows around the country, where she has won awards in Textile and Wearable Art categories. Her work is also carried is a select number of high-end art-to-wear galleries. I purchased this piece directly from the artist at the fabulous Pasadena Contemporary Craft Market. Offered is a stunning HANDAINTED SILK LONG SCARF JACKET. This piece is from my personal collection, but was never worn and has been carefully stored in a closed wardrobe. I have quite a few Gloria Lewis creations, so common sense dictates that I sell some of my beautiful pieces that have not been worn. The style is elegant and timeless. The coloration is beautiful. It is very comfortable to wear and can be either dressy or dressed down.
