Rosebush in the late 1800s and includes volumes published in the late 1700s and early 1900s. The Library presents a window into the new nation as seen by scholars in Europe and America; many of the books are first editions, written in English, French, and German, and include bound sets with marbleized covers and pages as well as softcover editions. The Early American History Library is now in the hands of a third generation Rosebush, and will be sold either individually or as a complete Library. There are a total of 75 books. Prof. Rosebush (1878-1948) was a scholar of American History and economic systems. A prominent educator-industrialist and resident of Appleton, Wisconsin during much of his life, he was the President of The Patent Fine Paper Company of Appleton, an economics professor at Lawrence College in Appleton, the past president of the YMCA, and the author of the famous Ethics of Capitalism (1923), recently reprinted. This private Library was accumulated during trips abroad as well as domestically, and includes many classics about the emerging American nation as it was viewed from abroad during its formative years following the American Revolution. Many of the books remain in pristine shape, some complete with engravings and fold-out maps. It is the desire of his heirs that the Library be acquired by one or more serious collectors. Rosebush studied at Alfred College, New York, the Universities of Pennsylvania and Berlin, and Cornell and he is identified in The American library annual 1911/12-1917/18 as one of the principle collectors of Americana books.
