From the card (translated from German):You now own a piece of genuine Erzebirge folk art. It was created at the center of the Christmas art of turning and carving and brings the atmosphere of the Erzebirge Christmas into your home. Ore Mountain folk art (German: Erzgebirgische Volkskunst) is a well-known form of highly artistic wood carving from East Germany. Typical creations include Christmas decorations and products such as wooden miners' figures, Christmas angels, figures of animals made by wood turning, smoking figures, Christmas mountains and Christmas pyramids, as well as candle arches, nutcrackers, and music boxes. Even today these are made entirely by hand, primarily in small craft businesses. The centre for the manufacture of Ore Mountain folk art lies in the region around the village of Seiffen, which is also known as the Toy Corner. Almost all of the East German production wood crafts, prior to reunification, carried an Expertic label. Often, this is the only indication of origin on these items. Expertic was not a manufacturer; it could be loosely described as a kind of guild or union. It promoted and in some ways protected crafts producers in the GDR (German Democratic Republic). An Expertic label was a seal of approval.
