Description: Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria-Hungary Decorative full-color reprint of enlarged postcard image, matted. Franz Joseph I or Francis Joseph I (18 August 1830 Vienna – 21 November 1916 Vienna) was Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary, Bohemia, and Croatia, and monarch of other states of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, from December 2, 1848 until his death in the middle of World War I. He was the longest-reigning ruler of Austria and Hungary, as well as the sixth-longest reigning monarch of any country in history. This attractive and colorful illustration, copied and enlarged from an 1898 postcard, shows the emperor in uniform with medals, next to the Imperial Austrian crown and coat of arms, with the grounds of the summer palace of Schönbrunn (Vienna) in the background. The original postcard was printed and published by August Denk in Vienna, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Franz Joseph's reign. The image of the emperor is taken from a photograph made by Carl Pietzner, a well-known and imperial court-appointed photographer in Vienna at the time. Dimensions: interior image 9 1/4" x 6"; exterior matte 14" x 10"Shrink wrapped in clear plastic for protection. Excellent condition -- Ready for framing.
