Description: Original oil painting by Spanish/Argentine painter Eduardo Soria (1890-1945). This oil on canvas is a sensitive genre painting of a young nursing mother against a sun splashed Iberian townscape, probably painted in Toledo on one of Soria's Spanish painting sojourns. The last image in the gallery is a scan from the Argentinean magazine "Caras y Caretas" issue of July 14, 1934. The painting is signed by the artist at bottom left and measures 24 1/4 x 19 1/2 inches, with the period frame it is 29 x 24 inches. The frame is a simple, well made, antique patinated gold leafed wood with an elegant sgraffito decorated band around the rabbet edge. The reverse of the painting shows a small patch above the bottom edge that corresponds with the dark area below the potted plants, only shows as a slight bump on the surface, otherwise the painting is in very fine condition. The frame shows typical minor wear and dents, but looks very good overall. Eduardo Soria (1890-1945) was born in Santander, Spain, although when he was very young he moved with his family to Argentina. An interest in drawing urged him on to painting studies in Buenos Aires and, in 1911, to move to Paris and continue his studies in their renowned academies, such as the Academie Julián. He returned from Paris in 1915 to settle in the Argentine capital for four years, in which he held several exhibitions of remarkable success. He spent the rest of his career in a cycle of living and painting in Argentina, Paris and his homeland of Spain.
