The sensor consists of a photocell and a red light emitting diode. The photocell detects the presence of an object by converting its optical image into an electrical signal. The LED emits light which is reflected off the object, and is detected by the photocell. The sensor can be used to trigger an alarm, stop a machine or close a gate. The sensor is made of fiberglass reinforced plastic, and features a red LED light source. It has a selectable light on/dark on operation mode, and an output short circuit, overcurrent and reverse polarity protection. This sensor is designed for use in dark environments, as it features a reflective sensing method.
