Eastern Prickly Pear Cactus WINTER / COLD HARDY From Upstate NY 5 CACTUS PADS

Description: The Eastern Prickly Pear is a very attractive cacti with cold tolerance, heat tolerance, drought tolerance, and the pollinators absolutely love them in late spring/early summer when they flower. These are from my many clusters of eastern prickly pears grown on my property in upstate NY. The best thing is they are native to the eastern United States and they have no problem wintering over in our upstate snowy climate. Plant when soil temperatures are above 50°Fahrenheit for six or more weeks. Can be potted indoors when temperatures are too low. These thrive particularly well in rocky, dryer areas that many other plants don't do well in. They are a very nice addition to rock gardens. Lovely yellow flowers in June.You will receive five pads ranging in size from 3- 6"; the cuttings are calloused over. They will root pretty quickly once you plant them. Place about 1/3 of the bottom of the pad in the ground in a sunny location, They will root within a few weeks in warm weather; the plant goes dormant in late fall-winter. Important: although these are a spineless variety, they do have tiny glochids (tiny, barbed spines) that stick in your skin and are painful! Use care when planting, handle the cacti with tongs or a pair of pliers to keep your skin from contacting the glochids, and always wear garden gloves.Information and instruction sheet will be sent with your order.
