The Lorax was Dr. Seuss’s favourite of all his works; an environmental story where the Lorax speaks on behalf of the trees, against the industrial ambitions of the Once-ler. The book was first published in 1971, at the beginnings of the modern environmentalist moment, as a protest by Dr. Seuss against huge levels of logging in his home state of California. Dr. Seuss said of the work: “The Lorax came out of me being angry. The ecology books I'd read were dull.… In The Lorax I was out to attack what I think are evil things and let the chips fall where they might." The book has been adapted for film on two occasions; the most recent being in 2012, where it was adapted into an animated film starring Danny DeVito, Zac Efron and Taylor Swift.
