Our samples are a generous 1 teaspoon size which is approximately 3 to 4 grams. Powders will vary in weight. The larger micron size are lighter and tend to be more airborne and the smaller micron powders are heavier.Please note micas are often used as a secondary colour to achieve different shades and to add shimmer to lip glosses and lipstick. In order to achieve a colour stay and to "stick" on the lips, most coloured micas do need to be mixed with oxides and /or carmine pigments, with that in mind, we developed Impact Coloured Pigments specifically for the colouring of lip makeup.One of the exemptions to this is the True Red Mica, which has a good colour stay if mixed with a touch of zinc oxide or titanium dioxide (for a pink colour). Micas are non-toxic occurring naturally from the minerals muscovite and silicate. Mica if smaller than 20 microns, gives a satiny appearance while large micas provide a sparkly effect. Micas are then coated with various oxides, carmine and titanium dioxide to give a full range of colours. Make sure the colour you select may be used for the application you want. For example, the blue, purple and green mica colours are coated with either ultramarines or chromium green which are not approved for use on the lips by the FDA.
