Commodore/MOS 6510/8500 to 7501/8501 CPU Adapter PCB/Module [C16 Plus/4 C116]

Description: Foreword This printed circuit board (PCB) implements the MOS 6510/8500 CPU adapter circuit for Commodore computers that use a MOS 7501/8501 CPU, designed by Andrew Challis. Please consider supporting Andrew's work and purchasing from him if possible; his eBay listings and website are listed below. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/hackjunkcom/m.html http://hackjunk.com/2017/06/23/commodore-16-plus-4-8501-to-6510-cpu-conversion/I am offering this listing to improve on delivery time and costs for residents of the United States of America, when compared with other listings available to only the United Kingdom. If you live outside of the United States of America, the shipment for this listing is processed through the eBay Global Shipping Program. If you are unfamiliar with how this adapter works or its limitations, please review Andrew Challis' website linked above. Overview Brief demonstration and video overview of the adapter PCB: https://youtu.be/q8fJ7YQBNzsThis PCB has been modified from a previous version to be smaller, and to also include breakout pads/pins for the A14 and A15 address lines. These two address lines are often connected to 64KB Commodore 16 memory expansion projects. Please send me a message if you are interested in purchasing more than the listed quantity as I may be able to satisfy the request by using parts from another listing. Combined shipping is also available for multiple purchases. If purchasing more than unit, please request or wait for an invoice prior to submitting payment so to ensure that combined shipping is applied. This listing is for one (1) CPU adapter module in either a PCB-only, unassembled module, or fully assembled configuration. The 6510/8500 CPU is NOT included. The optional modified kernal EPROM is NOT included. The socket is of the double-wipe variety and the male header pins are of the round type. I have verified that these round pins will install into both the single-wipe and double-wipe socket; the factory-installed socket is likely of single-wipe variety. For assembled modules:Solder joints will be inspected for tidiness and cleaned of excessive flux. The board will be tested by ensuring proper continuity between male and female pins.BOTH angled headers for the tape motor control and address line break-out will be installed unless otherwise requested. The photos show an example of an assembled PCB (unsoldered), the unassembled PCB, socket and headers, and an example of a fully assembled adapter with 6510 CPU inside of a Commodore 16 computer.PCB Dimensions: 59.5mm x 20.8 mm Overhead (from center of listed pin): 3.8mm above pins 21-40; 1.3mm below pins 1-20; 3.6mm above pins 1,40 (IC notch); 7.2mm below pins 20,21.You may opt to remove the factory-installed CPU socket from the system board and solder the adapter directly in its place or use the adapter as-is in the factory installed socket. Assembly and InstallationSolder the two 20-pin MALE headers to the side labeled 8501, along the "MOS 8501" silkscreen footprint. This header will insert into the system board (or factory socket).Solder the 40-pin socket, or a 6510/8500 CPU to the side labeled 6510 along the "MOS 6510" silkscreen footprint. This side accepts the 6510/8500 CPU.Ensure that the CPU is inserted in the proper orientation; note pin 1 and the IC notch on the silkscreen. Ensure that the adapter PCB is inserted into the system board (or factory socket) using similar markings on the system board as a reference.Optionally solder the 2-pin angled MALE header to the "Tape Motor" footprint. The "Tape Motor" header pins may be bridged or connected to one another via a toggle switch. When the pins are connected, the motor of a connected datasette will turn on and run until the two pins are disconnected. See Andrew Challis' website above for technical details.Optionally solder the 2-pin angled MALE header to the A14 and A15 footprint. This footprint allows access to the CPU address lines for Commodore 16 64KB projects. Each of the computers in the Commodore-264 series (16, Plus/4, 116) has different clearance between the system board and the bottom of the keyboard, so please evaluate your situation carefully prior to purchase. I have only verified this adapter to install to the factory CPU socket of a Commodore 16, with a 6510 CPU installed in a socket on the adapter PCB. In this configuration, the RF shield makes contact with the top of the 6510 CPU. It should install into a Plus/4 or 116 by removing the factory installed CPU socket on the system board (noted on Andrew Challis' web site above); please verify with above dimensions prior to purchase.
