Illustrations are bright and clear. Twelve woodcut plates, four in color. Interior is age-toned, more so at margins; shows scattered foxing, some stains, some printing shadows. First published in Boston in 1716, Church's History of "King Philip's War" was reissued in 1772. Samuel G. Drake, the editor of the nineteenth century editions, worked from the 1772 edition to prepare the 1827 edition. With the Revised Edition of 1845, the editor worked to correct the text based on "more recent publications of high authority," and he changed some "obsolete and objectionable words and phrases." While Samuel Drake was aiming for an authentic and valuable contribution to Indian History, he acknowledged that "the interesting personal narrative of Col.
