Description: Children's Favorite Stories is a rather rare book from children's writer, Laura Rountree Smith. This 1936 edition of the book, 127 pages, 1918 copyright, is in very good condition, (details below). It contains 25 stories; a combination of familiar fairy tales such as "The Three Bears" and Aesop Fables such as "The Fox and the Grapes". The book measures 5.5" by 7.25". Author, Laura Rountree Smith (1876 to 1924) frequently collaborated with illustrator, Fred Stearns. Children's Favorite Stories is a great example of charming pen and ink drawings from his early career. (See photos for a few examples.) The book features an embossed cover, and the colors are good. The endpapers and spine are in excellent condition. This may have been a durable library edition of the book. Although the back endpaper has a library pocket, there are no stamps or markings that indicate it was ever held in a library collection. There are very few condition issues and they are shown in the photos above. When viewed in certain light the cover shows a rectangular shadow. It is visible, but not very obvious. There is a minor tear on page 11 and a very minimal tear on page 53. Some pages have slight fingerprints and discoloration.
