Description: A specialty division of International Silver, the Charter Company, c. 1930-42, was established to produce a highly finished, discrete line of extra well-crafted items, which it did to marked success, as validated by the fact that the Dallas Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Yale University Art Gallery all hold examples of Charter's work and such prestigious auction houses as Sotheby's and Christie's have handled their items. This c. 1935, plain walled, baluster form, solid silver water pitcher stands as an example of the quality of goods Charter produced. Colonial, i.e. Georgian, in style, it stands 8 1/2" tall to the highest point of the handle, sits on a rimmed base that is 3 7/8" across, and weighs an exceptionally heavy 32.8 T. oz. It has a lofty, hollow, C-scroll handle and a large, deeply set, spout. A true estate item held in one family until this offering, this has never been monogrammed or inscribed and is in close to original condition. There are no dents or mars and the mirror-like surface remains in remarkably fine condition. Apart from perhaps three faint dimples and several light surface flecks, there is no evidence of use. It is marked on the underside with the Charter Company "leaf in a C" emblem, model number "SE 1" followed by an emblem, "Sterling," and "4 Pints" for the capacity.
