Circa 1930s Scarce Modified Vehicle Photograph on Paperboard; Identification on vehicle side reads; "ANTARCTIC SNOW CRUISER PROJECT - RESEARCH FOUNDATION of ARMOUR INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY". Period ink writing on mount reads; "Fox Photo" and "Lima, Ohio". Research indicates that the Antarctic Snow Cruiser was a vehicle designed to provide transportation during the United States Arctic Service Expedition (1939-41). During it's delivery drive from Chicago, the cruiser veered off the road and wrecked on the Lincoln Highway in the town of Gomer, Ohio (near Lima, Ohio) and was most likely the opportunity for Fox the photographer to take this image. To this day, the abandoned cruiser remains buried in several feet of snow and ice in the Antarctic. Condition: light surface soiling, toning, occasional dings, scuffs, edge wear.
