Description: Antique Vellastic Ribbed/Fleeced Underwear Fashion Box, Ca 1920, Lovely Color + Graphics, Vintage Clothing Advertising, General Store Decor Rare 100+ year-old clothing box in outstanding antique condition. Produced in the early 20th century by Utica Knitting Company of Utica, NY, Vellastic underwear was an elastic, fleece-lined product that was marketed as "medium-weight, yet as warm as bulkier underwear." Because of the materials used in the weave, the product was also proclaimed as being both "healthful and sanitary." This is a larger Vellastic underwear box measuring 14 1/4" long x 10 3/4" wide x 3 1/4" deep and weighing 10oz. It contains no product. The label illustrates an Edwardian-era family at home comfortably wearing their Utica Bodyguard knit union-suits (full-length one-piece thermal underwear). Lovely green, red, and gold colors and vintage graphics characterize the paper label, which shows only mild wear, including some peripheral staining, edge fraying, and a small pencil mark. The box lid has one complete corner split, and the other corners as well as the edges showing spotty wear, but no water damage, holes, or distracting tears are seen. Mild lid warping. More pencil writing is noted on the end label as well as at the bottom of the box. Finally, some masking tape residue and a few partial splits of the interior cardboard floor and corners are present, but overall, these blemishes do not distract from the authentic beauty of this box. An outstanding addition to any vintage advertising collection. Well suited for a home or commercial display, such as at a country or general store.
