Description: Antique 1870 Handcrafted Roses Needlepoint Says To Aunty From Ella With Provinance - Framed The back brown paper cover was torn so we took it off, removed the rusty nails holding the piece in place and replaced them, flattened the needlepoint piece as best as we could, and kept the relevant information from the original brown paper sealed in plastic. On the back, someone had written, "Made by mother of Hazel Sniffin Means, circa 1870. Ella Walters Sniffin, 1857-1898, Great Great Grandmother of Kelly & Caitlin". A quick search finds that Hazel Sniffin Means (1897-1997) is buried in the Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington, DC and her mother, the maker of this piece, Ella Walters Sniffin and her husband are buried in the Congressional Cemetery, Washington DC. It appears that Ella's husband's family goes back at least 2 more generations in Washington, DC (to the early 1800s) and are also buried in the Congressional Cemetery. Frame measures 18 1/8" x 17". Needlepoint piece measures 16 5/8" x 15 1/2".
