Description: Classic and detailed Victorian era case that is made of mother of pearl and abalone pieced together in a geometric design. This case could be used for business cards or calling cards, which were traditionally used during this time period. Of course, during this time period these everyday used items still needed to look appealing and show off style and the money it would have taken to have these items. This piece displays a mix of abalone and mother of pearl which were considered more exotic and harder to come by then other materials. The design is on the front and the back and shows a border of abalone triangles with mother of pearl vertical diamonds. Inside the diamonds are etchings of floral like shapes that have an etched border around them also. All of the sides are also dressed in MOP. There is a hinged opening of the top as shown by the photos and is opened by a push button on the side. There is a small metal plate at the top side of the case perhaps for engraving initials if they had been so inclined. The inside is lined in red velvet cloth. The width is 2.8" and the length is 4". There is some slight wear consistent with age around some corners and one corner that looks to have had some kind of filler in the past. The hinge opens and closes well. There do not appear to be any abrasions or cracks. Please note: The color of the product displayed on photos may differ slightly from the actual products due to factors such as photography, lighting, computer resolution, lighting within your own home, etc. All hand crafted items may be expected to have naturally occurring variations. Imperfections add to the history and character of each piece.
